Students and business gain from the experience

The Marketing Eye underlined its commitment to the education of young people this summer by welcoming no less than four students on work experience to its offices in Uckfield.

First to join was Phoebe Simpson, a year 10 student from Uckfield Community Technology College.

Phoebe was followed by Gabrielle Randall and then Maya Hazelgrove, both year 12 students and also from Uckfield Community Technology College.  Gabrielle and Maya had taken part in the Young Business Minds competition and had been so inspired by the experience that they volunteered to give up part of their summer holidays to learn more.

Finally, Kristian Velden, a year 12 student from Crowborough Beacon Community College, joined for a week towards the end of August.

Gabrielle Randell commented: "The team at The Marketing Eye made me feel extremely welcome and involved me in a variety of interesting tasks.  I would highly recommend The Marketing Eye for valuable experience in a friendly and professional local business."

Neil Edwards, Managing Director of The Marketing Eye said: "In a time when work and university opportunities for school leavers are at a premium, we believe we have a responsibility to give what opportunities we can to young people to gain experience and enhance their CV's."

Neil recommends that other businesses think hard about opening their doors to work experience students.

He continued: "We were impressed with the performance of all of our work experience students this summer.  We enjoyed watching them grow in confidence as their time with us progressed and they all demonstrated accuracy and thought in the assignments that they completed.  Every student made a contribution to the business, whether it was writing blog posts, undertaking research, entering data or sitting in on client meetings".

Karen O'Riley, Vocational Mentor at Uckfield Community Technology College said: "We are very grateful for the opportunity and support Neil and his team have given to our students. Students learn a great deal from being in a work environment and The Marketing Eye's contribution has been a valuable part of their experience and their education."
